So simple, but still so brilliant! I read it very fast, it immediately caught my attention, although at a glance, it seems as if it lacks its sparkle, its I-don’t-know-what.

Of Mice and Men tells the story of George and Lennie, two farm laborers, drifting from job to job in California. Lennie is a giant, but he understands things very hard, he has difficulties in learning, he is almost like an innocent child. George is the smart one, always taking care of Lennie and making sure he stays out of trouble.

They have this dream, that one day, they will have enough money to buy a small farm and live together, harvest fruits and vegetables, have animals and take care of them. But the evolution of things doesn’t help them achieve their dreams. In the end, things happen completely different, as if life just wants to give them a lesson and make them understand that most of the times dreams do not come true.

Of Mice and Men is a book about true friendship, but in the same time it gives an input on the society back in the 1930s, with sexism, racism, prejudices on those with disabilities.

It’s the first John Steinbeck book I’m reading, he’s an author that has been on my read-list for a long time, but Of Mice and Men just opened my appetite, so for sure I will try some other of his novels.
